Alex Petroyama, E-RYT 500
Sound Healer | Yoga Martial Artist | Mental Health Scholar
Alex Petroyama brings a rare combination of academic rigour and embodied wisdom to every training. With 19 years of personal practice, 14 years of full-time teaching, and over 10,000 hours of classroom experience, Alex doesn't teach from theory alone—he teaches from lived experience.
A recent graduate of the University of Toronto with a Mental Health HBSc (2022) and former Canadian Merit Scholar, Alex grounds his teaching in evidence-based practices. His guiding philosophy is simple and profound: all health is mental health.
As Safe & Sound's lead trainer and curriculum developer, Alex integrates embodied cognition, sound healing, and science into every experience. He brings a grounded presence and deep insight that helps guide students into states of rest, regulation, and embodied awareness.
A Global Seeker
Alex's commitment to authentic practice has taken him across the globe—studying in Peru, India, Nepal, Greece, and Japan. His journey includes dedicated service work with Karma Projects in Cusco, Peru, where he brings yoga to young girls at Centro Nanay orphanage, teaching them self-love and empowerment through practice.
Disciplines & Modalities
Alex holds expertise across traditional yoga lineages including Hatha, Vinyasa, Yin, Restorative, Kundalini, and Advaita Vedanta, with specializations in Mindfulness, Meditation, and Detox Yoga.

YIN YOGA CERTIFICATION
Master the art of stillness. Learn to guide students into long-held, passive poses that target deep connective tissue, calm the nervous system, and create profound shifts in mental and emotional wellbeing.
KUNDALINI YOGA TRAINING
